Happy Meatless Monday everyone! Did you know that according to a report by Technomic called the "Pizza Consumer Trend Report", 41% of Canadians polled reported eating pizza once a week? I am so guilty of this! Homemade pizza is one of my go-to meals, and while you might be thinking that pizza isn't the healthiest meal option, I'm here to tell you that pizza can be healthy if you choose the right ingredients. For example, when you use a thin crust whole wheat pizza dough versus regular pizza dough, you add in fiber and complex carbohydrates, (a slice of whole wheat pizza has 4 grams of fiber). The toppings you choose matter too. For example, if you pile your pizza sky high with pepperoni, sausage, bacon and extra cheese, you're only going to increase the saturated fats, sodium and cholesterol. Instead, try opting for fresh veggie toppings and less cheese. You can also use a vegan cheese like cashew cream cheese like I did in this White Potato Habanero Pizza. Cashews are cholesterol-free and are full of other vitamins and minerals like Vitamin E and magnesium (read more here). Whatever your preference, remember to be mindful of portions (because pizza is usually one of those food items we like to shovel back), and try serving your pizza with a healthy, simple salad. P.S. This pizza calls for Heartbeat's Red Habanero Hot Sauce, and you can find it here (it's the best). Happy pizza making!

Finally throw on some fresh parmesan (vegan or dairy) and then throw in the oven.
Bake your pizza for approximately 20 minutes or according to dough directions. Broil for 2 minutes at the end.
