A majority of people would agree that chocolate and peanut butter are a match made by the Gods. The combination of the sweetness of chocolate and the saltiness of peanuts offer a pleasant contrast that many of us cannot refuse. And while chocolate and peanut butter candies or cookies may not be the best way to enjoy this dynamite duo, a healthy breakfast smoothie with natural cocoa powder and unsweetened natural peanut better is a great option!

If you're not opting for a 100% natural peanut butter (i.e. the only ingredient listed as peanuts), then I'm not confident that all of these health benefits would still be 100% true ('Regular' peanut butters usually have added sugars and hydrogenated vegetable oils like soy or palm). Did you know that natural peanut butter is a rich source of protein (100 grams has 25-30 grams of protein); contains healthy unsaturated fats and can help to reduce cholesterol; and is packed with vitamins and antioxidants like Vitamin A, E and potassium? Natural or Dutch cocoa powder is also an ingredient that punches in quite a few health benefits. Did you know that cocoa powder may have as many antioxidants as red wine and green tea; it is flavonoid-rich which is good for your brain health; and it may have a positive impact on your mood because it can boost natural opiates in your body called endorphins, and the neurotransmitter serotonin? These reasons were enough to convince me that this easy Peanut Butter & Banana Chocolate Smoothie was just what the doctor ordered this morning. The additional benefits of organic banana and unprocessed oats made it an extra healthy and tasty treat. I hope you enjoy it!
